Equine and Employability Education
As an independent learning provider we offer qualifications for both Part and Full time study. This is on offer from September 2018.
Southlea Barn specialises in Land-based and equine learning with new a qualification offer available from September onwards. This qualification will be a diploma or certificate in Employability skills with specific units linked to animal care.
Students can apply from KS4 to complete an Entry Level 1 up to Level 2 qualification in their chosen area. KS5 students have the option of applying to complete their NOCN and functional skills English and Maths with us on a full time basis.
Students can be accepted onto this course by either consulting with their school and arranging their place through them or by contacting us to apply directly to the centre. We specialise in providing a rounded education experience for all students including students who have an EHCP plan and can adjust our provision to meet learning outcomes for students. We have developed education experiences for students with a range of needs including complex learning needs to behavioural needs.
We also provide practical intervention work with students struggling to maintain their place in mainstream or SEN provision and work with students in a small group or even 1:1 basis to extend their practical vocational skills. Intervention placements are available throughout the year.
We aim to provide
- substantial qualifications which include work experience
- maths and English for students who have not achieved grade A*-C/9 to 4 GCSE in these subjects
- high quality work preparation
- added value non-qualification activity that supports the students’ goals and is integrated into the study programme
